Description

Gallery Junction 402 W Chapman Ave. Orange Ca 92866 714-831-1226 The Eldorado Brougham was Cadillac's most exclusive and dramatically styled automobile of the 1950's. Designed by Ed Glowake, it was produced for only two years, 1957-58, before being supplanted in the 1959 redesign. Only 703 were built in the two years. The Eldorado Brougham's price of $13,074 was nearly enough to buy two Eldorado Seville hardtop coupes. Each 1958 Eldorado Brougham was lavished with every comfort and convenience feature Cadillac could conceive, powered by a triple-carburetor 335 horsepower version of Cadillac's famed 365 cubic inch overhead valve V-8 engine and individually specified from a nearly limitless array of colors and materials. The Eldorado Brougham's significance, aside from its luxury, rarity and performance, lay in the beautiful body hand built in Cadillac's own shops. It was Cadillac's first four-door hardtop and rode on Cadillac's shortest 1958 wheelbase, 126 inches, a trim luxury statement intended for the successful businessman or professional who preferred to be behind the wheel and in control. The hardtop roofline under its distinctive brushed stainless steel roof was barely distinguishable from a two-door but the rear hinged back doors facilitated graceful rear seat entry and exit. The rounded nose and tail with quarter-style bumpers were immediately recognizable as different from run of the mill Cadillacs and the interiors incorporated the finest materials and design. Built in small quantity and embodying the height of luxury and equipment, the Eldorado Brougham was the epitome of Fifties exclusivity. Each Cadillac Eldorado Brougham was individually crafted and they are extravagantly expensive to restore but this 1958 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham, no detail has been overlooked. It is finished in Polar Ice Blue, a correct 1958 Eldorado Brougham color with Grey and Blue leather upholstery and interior trim and matching Ice Blue carpets. Its vanity accessories, often lost, are complete including the six magnetic shot glasses, Arpege perfume atomizer and cigarette case.
